A Love Letter to my Countrymen
For more than two centuries, Americans have enjoyed liberty and prosperity like no other people in the world. We are mortal humans, no different from anyone else, and not without our own problems. Yet, the United States of America has been that “Shining City on a Hill” to which millions have fled from the destructions of famine, war, persecution, and tyranny. And we remain that place that the world looks to for hope. But, now it’s becoming obvious to more Americans that we are losing that distinction, losing that liberty and prosperity, and sliding into mediocrity, economic and political turmoil, and increasing injustice. Many who have said that these things “can’t happen in America” are wondering why.
Most often, a typical love letter would be full of sweet talk and such, but not always. Sometimes, as a friend would lovingly confront a friend, or a father his children, such a letter would have to be more sorrowful than pleasant. But, it is a love letter just the same. The one who admonishes you in your errors is not necessarily the one who hates you. And, I earnestly warn you, the one who gives hearty approval to error and sin, is not the one who loves you. We, at Liberty Heritage Centre, dedicate ourselves to share with our countrymen the blessings of God’s grace, that HE shed on our country, and to you, the individual, and lovingly warn of the consequences of rejecting it.
The first and most important matter to share is that HE IS. HE IS who HE IS, whether you believe it or not, regardless of any representation or misrepresentation, or bad church experience, or any other issue that would be a stumbling block for you, and prevent you from seeking and finding HIM. The question is: do you know HIM? HE IS the Sovereign Creator of all things, and presides over the destinies of nations and individuals. HE IS a GOD of justice and truth, and yet a GOD of grace and mercy. For this purpose, we don’t need to explore all of the implications of these things now, except that whoever you are, or whatever you’ve done, GOD is a gracious rewarder of those who seek HIM.
Now, most of you, my countrymen, have allowed yourselves to be wooed and sweet-talked into new depths of sin like our country has never seen. The enemies of God and country know well that “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people” (Proverbs 14:34). The distinctions of liberty and prosperity in America are a result of nothing else but God’s blessings on a faithful and morally self-governing people. Anyone who thinks that liberty can be had without God’s hand, does not know what he is saying. Liberty is not anarchy, but is God’s provision for a true richness and fulfillment in life. Frenchman Alexis De Tocqueville visited the United States in 1830. After his search for “America’s greatness,” he concluded that “America is great because America is good. When America ceases to be good, she will cease to be great.” In a well-known quote, John Adams said, “Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people, and is wholly inadequate for the government of any other.” God is the giver of life and liberty, and when we fail to be restrained and self-governing, we will lose our liberty. Do you appreciate your liberty? REPENT! With a humble and sincere heart, ask HIM to forgive your sins. But, not for liberty’s sake; it is your eternity that is at stake. God has paid the penalty for us by the death and resurrection of HIS SON, Jesus Christ. It is our hope that we can restore what has been lost in our country, but it starts with you. Christ gave himself for you. All that is required is a sincere repentance and acceptance of HIS grace. Your eternity is the most important!
